Overview

At Woodstock Primary Academy, it is our intent to provide a high-quality art and design education that allows our children to engage, inspire and challenge, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Through their work in art and design children will produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques, evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design, know about great artists and craft makers and designers. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Art and design teaching at Woodstock reflects on exploring different techniques and materials. It allows children to express their creativity in a variety of different ways. We aim to give children the confidence to produce quality art work. This includes developing a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. As well as, developing their knowledge of great artists, craft makers, designers and architects throughout the school.

At Woodstock we measure the impact of our art and design by celebrating the work children produce by looking displays, art competitions, school website, Twitter and the ownership of the children’s sketchbooks. The curriculum is designed to make pupils think critically and encourage them to think outside the box by taking risks and learn new skills and gain more knowledge. These opportunities are extended through various opportunities such as having art days, artists visiting, art home learning and visits to local art galleries.
